Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 2022

Bowel Cancer is Australia’s second most deadly cancer (the deadliest for people under 44), and wait lists have blown out through COVID.

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month with a focus on ‘Red Apple Day’ Wednesday 15th June.

Bowel Cancer Australia’s apple logo is symbolic of the charity’s bowel cancer message: bowel cancer is treatable and beatable if detected early.

The outline of Bowel Cancer Australia’s apple logo appears as an abstract of a human bowel. The small hole in the apple is caused by a worm. If detected early and removed, the worm is unable to continue affecting the apple or the health of the tree.

It’s the same with people. If bowel cancer is detected early it can be successfully treated, which means patients and their families can continue to enjoy a healthy life.

Early bird gets the worm: Bowel cancer claims the lives of 101 Australians every week (5,255 people a year)—but it’s one of the most treatable types of cancer if found early

No one is safe: While the risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn’t discriminate, affecting men and women, young and old.

More common than you think: 293 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this week (15,206 people a year).
